Senator Barack Obama won the Presidential election last night and is now the President Elect.

America, I’ve gotta say, I’m super proud of you. For the first time in history America stepped up and voted an African American man into the White House, and a qualified man at that!

I knew this race would be historic no matter what happened, but I wasn’t really ready for the emotions I’d feel last night. I’ve been planning on voting for Barack Obama rather than John McCain for months and months but it didn’t hit me until I got into that voting booth that I was participating in a historic election and I was crossing those ridiculous racial lines and voting for Obama. I admit that I got a little emotional.

The biggest shock though was when Barack Obama was projected as the winner and me and my husband were watching Katie Couric and we both just got teary. To see all these people on TV finally actually feeling like they can do anything they set their minds to, it’s not just lip service anymore, it’s true. Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican or totally unaffiliated, you can’t deny this historic time.

President Elect Barack Obama gave a really heart felt speech, and I found myself clapping a lot, but I also wanted to give a shout out to John McCain. You know, John McCain’s campaign didn’t go so well. He got a little heated, he picked Sarah Palin for his running mate and I don’t care what anyone says, in MY opinion it was an insanely poor choice, and eventually he ran a really negative campaign. HOWEVER, the concession speech that John McCain gave last night was really impressive. He was very well spoken, he was very gracious and he made a point to the people watching that even though he didn’t win he was proud to be part of a historic election. I found myself thinking, if THAT McCain had been running all this time, I just might have leaned more toward him.

So word to John McCain. and CONGRATS to Barack Obama. I dunno what’s going to happen, but these are sure exciting times!
