On Monday nine South Carolina firefighters were killed in the line of duty in a furniture store blaze.

The fire at the Sofa Super Store broke out at 7PM. Firefighters came to the scene of the 30 foot blaze and were attempting to rescue the employees inside when the roof collapsed. Reports speculate between two and six employees of the furniture store were saved. Though arson is not suspected, specialist are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.

It’s a tragedy to lose just one life to a fire, but nine men killed trying to save lives, nine firefighters; thats just incomprehensible. The names of these brave hero’s will be released later this week.

MSNBC cites: “Nine brave, heroic, courageous firefighters of the city of Charleston have perished fighting fire in a most courageous and fearless manner, carrying out their duties,” Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley said at a morning news conference. “To all of their loved ones, our heart goes out to them.”

The same sentiment goes out from the Daily Brew as well.
